Encryption available to so many people -thanks to WhatsApp

Yes!! It’s definitely a big deal, since a billion people now have access to encrypted messaging because of WhatsApp.

And all this at such a plaintive Time.
WhatsApp turned on end-to-end encryption just a week after FBI was struggling to get the iPhone Apple unlocked.

This change was too hard to ignore.
Encryption has been there in many forms and degrees since many years, but it’s never been this big deal before.
There are many merits to this change.

WhatsApp says, “The idea is simple: when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to. No one can see inside that message. Not cyber criminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us.”

This encryption also covers all the voice calls, messages, videos, photos, files and voice messages sent using this app.

This means now all your communication- in a group of with a single contact, would be protected by the
most dependable 256-bit encryption — the AES256 algorithm is accepted by the US and Canadian governments as standards for encrypting transited data and data at rest.
This is definitely not going pretty well with a lot of government officials, specially the ones who are out for fighting terrorism. It’s a very big problem if the world’s most popular messaging network devices to go encrypted.
Even though before it wasn’t too easy tapping into these networks, but now it doesn’t leave them any option to. The government’s reaction to this is still awaited to be seen.
But you can expect at least some countries to get harsh in their reaction.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that WhatsApp might have made itself illegal in India by switching on 256-bit encryption. However, India does not yet have regulation in place for OTT messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

This step of WhatsApp is primarily due to the growing popularity of apps like Signal and Telegram, which offer various degrees of encryption. However, WhatsApp goes a step further, and offers encryption by default, and also within groups.

Becoming a parent, flipped my world upside down, and there was no way I was going to miss the first laugh, the first word, the first step, or any milestone in between.Staying at home not only meant quality time with my daughter, but also allowed more time to do what I love…Pen my thoughts down on my blog.
I strongly believe in breaking all the stereotype ways of parenting.
For me parenting is all about love and fun. My girls and I believe in jamming out in the car, in dancing in the rains, and in miracles. We believe in smiling till our cheek hurt and laughing till our neighbours’ ears burst. Parenting definitely comes with loads of challenges, but trust me facing these challenges becomes much more easier by having a fun and a happy attitude towards it.
